  • Stop taking the pill: if your on it. Do this three months before you are going to start trying.

  • Load up on folic acid (folate): Folic acid can help reduce the risk of serious birth defects that affect the brain and spinal cord. The FDA recommends' that all women attempting to get pregnant take folic acid supplements to help decrease the chance of birth defects.

  • Stop Smoking: Smoking during pregnancy is a no win. Pregnant women who smoke cigarettes run an increased risk of having stillborn or premature infants or infants with low birth weight. Children of women who smoked while pregnant have an increased risk for developing conduct disorders. National studies of mothers and daughters have also found that maternal smoking during pregnancy increased the probability that female children would smoke and would persist in smoking.

  • Stop Drinking and using drugs now:  Drinking, Drugs and Pregnancy do not mix. Clear your body of any drugs or alcohol. If you are taking prescription drugs you may need to find out if they are safe to take while pregnant, and never ask just one doctor. Do research online, go to the drug companies web site and do your research. If the drugs are the kind your not supposed to be taking anyway, you should not be taking anything that is illegal.

  • Cut back on the Caffeine intake: There are studies on both sides of this coin. The facts that we found suggest that what you take your baby takes, but your baby doesn't yet have the ability to filter chemicals like an adult. So the affects that you may be having, your baby also will but worse. Do research and decided what is best for you and your baby.

  • Check your weight: Now is the time to check your BMI. Healthy weight women have been shown to conceive easier. You should be in between 20 and 30 before you start trying.

  • Husbands: Stop wearing the briefs and start with boxers to increase sperm count. Morning sex is best, sperm count is highest at this time.

  • Positions to avoid: Experts recommend that you avoid having sex while sitting, standing, or with the female on top. These positions defy gravity and may discourage the upward mobility of sperm.  Lowest chance for pregnancy.

  • Best positions: Many experts suspect that the missionary position (man on top) affords the best opportunity for baby-making, though no definitive studies have been done on this question. This position allows for the deepest penetration and, as a result, places sperm closer to the cervix. Best chance for pregnancy.

  • After intercourse: The woman can try elevating her hips with a pillow so her cervix is exposed to the maximum amount of semen. Stay in bed for 15-30 minutes in this position.
